"Defying Gravity"
New Star Children’s Theatre is proud to announce registration and auditions for their next production, Defying Gravity. This uniquely original musical was written by New Star Children’s Theatre alumni Melanie Thompson. Melanie also wrote the script for the recent productions of “The Totally True Story of Cinderella and the Prince“, “That’ll be the Day“, “Curtain Up!” and “Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp“. Songs for Defying Gravity were written by Robert B. Hendry III, Dana Hendry and Kayla Guzman.
What would happen if Alice (of Wonderland) took a wrong turn down the rabbit hole and ended up in Munchkinland AFTER the Wicked Witch has melted? Without their evil boss, the Flying Monkeys are causing all kinds of trouble! Glinda, the Scarecrow and Munchkins are at their wits end and need some help to stop the madness! Alice agrees to help them solve the problem but soon realizes she will need help … from new friends who aren’t afraid of flying high themselves: A computer geek, a group of mischievous fairies, a daredevil Trapeze troupe, a pirate queen who sails a magic ship through the sky, and her salty pirate side-kicks. It’s a unique crew, and that’s just the beginning of the adventure!
The program will be open to boys and girls ages 5 – 17 years old. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 5:30pm and 8:30pm at The Bridge Community Church, 511 Sibley Street, Folsom. Cast members will be required to register prior to auditioning. Everyone who registers will receive a part with lines.
**We will definitely have roles available for boys as well as girls! We welcome ALL who audition regardless of experience! Cast members are taught acting, singing, and dancing, and will present the musical at the end of the session. We emphasize that every child is talented and deserves a chance in the spotlight. All children are given roles with lines. We feel that every child is a star, and treat each child with respect, and kindness.
